Slip Chair

By Snarkitecture

Designed by Snarkitecture for Uva, Slip Chair is a wooden chair that appears to be sinking into the ground and unusable. It is paired with a tapered stone volume that restores a functional surface for sitting. The opposing elements of the chair and the monolithic volume resting just above it are joined in reciprocal balance. Rotated on two axes, the implied instability of the slipping forms conceals the absolute stability of Slip.

The first version of Slip is released in White Ash and Black Marble. Each chair is handcrafted, numbered and certified. Expected shipping time of 16 weeks.

Slip Chair is available, by order, from 1600€.

Snarkitecture

Snarkitecture is a New York-based collaborative practice established to investigate the boundaries between art and architecture. The name is drawn from Lewis Carroll’s The Hunting of The Snark, a poem describing the “impossible voyage of an improbable crew to find an inconceivable creature.” In its search for the unknown, Snarkitecture created architectural-scale projects, installations and objects.

Snarkitecture’s work focuses on the reinterpretation of everyday materials, structures and programs to new and imaginative effect. With a conceptual approach centered on the importance of experience, the studio creates unexpected and memorable moments that invite people to explore and engage with their surroundings. By transforming the familiar into the extraordinary, Snarkitecture makes architecture perform the unexpected.
