Portugal, The Chair

By Kim Thomé

Designed by Kim Thomé, Portugal, The Chair is an embracing space that welcomes you. Wide, with excessive soft armrests, it hopes to offer a space that sits somewhere between a lounge chair and a sofa. The large ash framework is sturdy and its soft circular shapes are versatile for different seating positions. The name also suggests its link to Portugal as all manufacturing is sourced from within Portugal.

The chair is fully handmade and it is built from components of two diverse natures: the circle supports the lower part of the body - legs and torso - and the generous arch supports the upper part - arms and back. These two elements are upholstered in high quality Portuguese leather, soft to the touch and hand-sewn using a traditional cross stitch.

The solid framework is executed in solid ash wood and is constructed using only simple round mortise and tenon joints. Three legs are connected by two cross bars and, over these, the soft seat is slightly raised above the horizontal supports, uniting the seat to the structure

Portugal, The Chair is available, by order, from 2800€.
